I’m not sure what to say other than WOW. I mean, I suspected most of this and much of it may not be true but… the source is amazing enough! What am I talking about? Well, this article: Hezbollah or Israel, “Dooms Day” For Which One?
This really is an amazing article to read. I do wonder how much of it is true, but if even just 1/4 of it is true, then the regular news services need to get their butts in gear and start reporting this kind of stuff. Because this is the kind of thing that will show the world why we’re fighting this fight.
Then again, that’d mean they would be in effect condoning the fighting and maybe even approving of it. Which would be beyond anything I’ve EVER heard most of them speak of (even FOX News). Guess we’ll see where this all leads us!

Hmm… I thought it was common knowledge that Iran and Syria were behind Hezbollah, which actually started in Iran as a political and social movement. There has been a lot of debate over the timing, and it is convenient for Iran that this happened right when the G8 conference (and others) started, but I don’t see evidence in the article beyond correlation implies causation.
Frankly, one of the big problems in the middle east is the creation of vacuums of power, and then the nutjobs that are allowed to fill them. For example – Israel leaves the south of Lebanon that it was occupying, and who becomes the de-facto government there? Hezbollah. Israel pulls out of the west bank, and who supplies needed social support and gets elected into power? Hamas. We topple the Iraqi regime with inadequate support and troop power, and what happens? General chaos, Death squads (in police/military uniforms) and insurgents all over the country. We go into Afghanistan and replace it’s government, but get our focus shifted away from there to Iraq, what happens? The fledgling government starts making deals with local warlords, and the opium trade is flourishing again.
I’m not particularly blaming anyone for this (It’s not like placing blame will solve the mess), but it does show a general lack of long-term planning or commitment (then again, does our political climate even allow for that?). It’s all quite sad, really.

Yes, you and I know that and anybody else that has paid attention knows that, but it’s also not stuff that the news organizations are reporting much and should be.
As for the vaccum of power, I’d tend to say that generally, those are created when people try to pull troops out when the work is only halfway done. But even when the troops are NOT pulled out, it’s hard to create the kind of security that we’re used to here when the people attacking are already inside the country.
Overall, it’s a pretty ugly situation. But I really think that what Israel and the United States are doing about it right now is the best way to go about things.

Maybe I’m just reading this posting at too late a date, but I HAVE heard about this news that this article mentions on our TV news channels (that Hezbollah is backed by Iran, Syria, even unofficial parts from Lebanon – I heard that the Lebanese people are supporting Hezbollah now over Israel since they’re being hit so hard).
I was surprised, though, that the article mentioned that Iran claims to have greater military arms than Israel. From what I’ve heard about Israel, they’re top dog in the Middle East. That’s pretty scary if Iran really does have as much as it’s claiming…which makes me wonder why they’d claim that if that’s what they’re being investigated about…???
I dunno…I tend to get really swept up with the latest news, then I quickly lose interest since it becomes so much of the same. And it’s too depressing…
